Supreme Court enters administrative orders on remote proceedings and landlord/tenant cases

The Michigan Supreme Court has entered three administrative orders:

• Pandemic-Related Amendments Adoption Order: This order retains most of the previous pandemic-related court rule amendments and adopts several additional amendments in light of comments and stakeholder recommendations regarding remote proceedings. This order takes effect September 9, 2022.

• Proposed Amendments of AO 2020-17 and MCR 4.201: This order permanently incorporates certain provisions from AO 2020-17 (Continuation of Alternative Procedures for Landlord/Tenant Cases) into MCR 4.201 in addition to other proposed amendments based on feedback. This order was published for comment and will be considered at a future public hearing.

• Amendment of AO 2020-17: This order takes effect immediately and allows the court to resolve a case at the first appearance if certain prohibited conduct is alleged and proven under statute.
