Prosecutor calls slaying 'a brutal, brutal murder'

On the morning of May 17, Oakland County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched on a welfare check to the residence of Tatiana Vuichard (59) in Commerce Township. Upon arrival, the deputies discovered Vuichard deceased, with lacerations to her neck and upper body. The victim’s husband, Vincent Floyd Vuichard (63), who resides at the same address, was arrested on scene and taken into custody.

On May 19, the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office charged Vuichard with one count of open murder, a felony punishable by life imprisonment, in connection with Ms. Vuichard’s death.

Vincent Vuichard was arraigned Monday morning in the 52-1 District Court in Novi before Magistrate Robert J. Morad. Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald appeared personally at the arraignment and asked the court to deny bond. “This was a brutal, brutal murder,” McDonald said. “More disturbing, [the defendant] was in the process of covering up and trying to get rid of his wife’s body and destroy evidence, when [the deputies] arrived… I ask the court to deny bond. [The defendant] is a danger, and this was a vicious murder.”

The magistrate denied bond and the next court date will be on June 2, at 11 a.m. before Novi District Court Judge Robert M. Bondy.

After the arraignment, McDonald discussed the importance of services for women in abusive relationships, noting, “We have seen a disturbing rise in domestic violence during the pandemic. I am fighting for those victims, and I will hold their abusers accountable. I want victims to know that they are not alone, and there is help. HAVEN provides shelter, counseling, advocacy and educational programming to nearly 30,000 people each year. I encourage you to reach out.”
