‘Understanding Mental Health’ focus of MJI webinar

The Michigan Judicial Institute and Friend of the Court Bureau will present a webinar on “Understanding Mental Health and the People We Serve” Thursday, May 23, from 9 to 10:30 a.m.  This webinar is intended for friend of the court staff and child support professionals.

In addition to the frustrations of divorce and custody, many clients in the child support system are struggling with their own mental health. This session will give an overview of different types of mental illnesses and substance use disorders, along with symptoms, behaviors, concerns, and possible treatments. Spreading awareness, knowledge, and understanding is one of the key ways we can help reduce stigmas, build compassion, and better serve our clients. Additionally, this training will help prepare child support staff to interact appropriately and safely with the people we serve.

Speaking at the webinar will be Evette Addai, pediatric psychologist and owner of Mountain of Change Counseling and Psychological Services PLLC; and Lisa Harris, management assistant, Friend of the Court Bureau, Michigan Supreme Court.
