35th Annual Law Day event hosted June 8 with legal advice, bike helmets

On Saturday, June 8, Michigan’s oldest and largest free legal aid clinic rolls out the red carpet on their annual pro bono outdoor event. Families across Metro Detroit will be flocking to Birmingham for the return of the free legal aid clinic and family fun fair.

“Lawyers giving back to our community. That’s what Law Day is,” says attorney Scott Goodwin. “We remove all the barriers to getting professional legal advice.” Goodwin should know. Since 1987, his yearly event has featured top lawyers providing free, onsite counsel. Goodwin says, “This is free access to 30 experienced lawyers in a friendly, no-pressure environment.”

It’s a family-friendly combo: free legal advice for adults and free carnival fun for the kids (bounce houses, games, surprises). Law Day means free hot dogs and ice cream for all. This year’s prizes include BMX-style bikes given away hourly, plus Detroit Tiger tickets. As always, the volunteer staff hands out hundreds of free bicycle safety helmets.  As a bonus, there will be in-person tributes to Wonder Woman and Spider-Man for photo opportunities.

In other super news, “Michigan Super Lawyer” winner Goodwin was recently inducted into the “Hall of Fame” by Michigan Lawyers Weekly in 2024. He was also awarded “Champion of Justice” in 2021 by the Michigan Association for Justice where he served as president in 2014.

WMUZ-FM radio is sponsoring Scott Goodwin Law Day. Making personal appearances will be WMUZ hosts Chris Stevenson, Bob Dutko, and Chris Ayotte, plus talent from WCHB-AM. These on-air personalities will be giving away prizes, books, music, tee-shirts and more.

Law Day will take place Saturday, June 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Goodwin Law Center, 999 Haynes in Birmingham, just south of Maple Road (15 Mile) and east of Woodward Avenue.  For additional information, visit www.1888goodwin.com.
