‘Community-Based Programs and Services’ focus of MJI webinar

The Michigan Judicial Institute and Child Welfare Juvenile Services will present the webinar “Community-Based Programs and Services, Part II: Where Do We Start?” on Friday, June 28, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.

As part of the juvenile justice reform efforts in Michigan, community-based services and programs are encouraged and incentivized through the legislative changes to the Child Care Fund (CCF). Effective October 1, 2024, CCF eligibility will also include programs and services at the point in which a complaint, referral, or petition is received. CCF reimbursement to counties increases to 75 percent for in-home care expenses including community-based supervision, services, and related practices.

This webinar will provide attendees with a presentation on Genesee County Family Court’s community-based program, “Intensive Family Services Program,” including:

• How the program was developed and what it is designed to do.

• The significance of collaboration with community stakeholders and the role of those partnerships in the program’s operation.

• The current operation of the program.

• The program’s impact on the youth and families involved within the community.

Speaking during the webinar will be Genesee County Circuit Court Judge John A. Gadola; Rhonda Ihm, Family Division administrator, Genesee County Circuit Court; Katie Hendricks, director of Family Services, Easterseals Macomb-Oakland Regional Center (MORC) in Genesee County; and Chad Montague, supervisor of case managers, Easterseals MORC in Genesee County.

This is Part II of a two-part webinar series on “Community-Based Programs and Services.”  Part I was present June 7.

This webinar qualifies for 1.00 Continuing Judicial Education (CJE) credit hour in Judicial Practice and Related Areas.  It will be recorded and available on the Judicial Learning Management System for judicial staff to access at a later date.

The intended audience for the program includes juvenile justice county implementation team members, courts, law enforcement, school personnel, attorneys, social service providers, and other juvenile justice stakeholders.
