Bar association co-sponsors judicial candidate forums for primary election

Oakland County voters will soon have the opportunity to hear directly from judicial candidates in all upcoming contested elections for Oakland County judgeships. A series of non-partisan judicial candidate forums will provide voters with the chance to hear the candidates speak about pertinent issues before the ballots are cast.

The forum for the primary election for the Oakland County Circuit Court – Non-incumbent Race between candidates Tricia Dare, Nicole Sophia-Calhoun Huddleston, and Moneka Sanford  will take place Thursday, June 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Auditorium, 1200 Court Tower Blvd. in Pontiac.

Persons interested in attending the forum for the Circuit Court must pre-register at ocba.org/judicial_candidates.

These forums are the result of a partnership between the Oakland County Bar Association, the League of Women Voters-Oakland Area, the Oakland County Legal News and the Oakland County Times that sponsors forums in all contested judicial races in Oakland County. The purpose of this partnership is to disseminate information about judicial candidates in their communities to help voters become more knowledgeable and informed, encouraging participation in Oakland County judicial elections.

The forums are open to the public and will be recorded so they may be available for online viewing or potentially aired on local cable stations where available.

Additionally, all candidates have been asked to complete a Judicial Candidate Questionnaire. The completed questionnaires as well as specific information about each forum are available on the OCBA website at ocba.org/judicial_candidates. The questionnaires are posted exactly as the candidates submitted them.

Three more forums are being planned in September ahead of the November general election for the Michigan Court of Appeal-2nd District, Oakland County Probate Court, and 46th District Court races. Additional information will be provided at a later date.
