SBM Animal Law Symposium Set for Friday, March 5
The State Bar of Michigan Animal Law Section will conduct its annual symposium from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Michigan State University College of Law Castle Boardroom.
Symposium speakers will address a number of topics related to current issues in animal law. The purpose of the event is to educate attorneys, but paralegals, law students, and members of the general public are encouraged to attend. Highlights include:
• Updates on and successes from the Animal Legal Lifeline
• A look at practical considerations related to litigating animal law disputes and updates on torts related to animal law, by Julie Fershtman, vice president of the SBM Board of Directors
• A discussion of veterinary malpractice liability in the area of companion animals by Chris Green, vice-chair of the ABA Animal Law Committee
• A discussion of veterinary malpractice cases and developing and running an animal law practice by Bellingham, Washington-based attorney Adam Karp, who has extensive practice in animal law
• Thinking about legal rights for wildlife
The cost to attend the symposium is $20 for law students and $30 for attorneys and others who sign up on or before Monday, March 1. The registration fee after March 1 is $30 for law students and $40 for all others. SBM PMRC Presents “How to Build and Strengthen Your Law Practice”
The State Bar of Michigan Practice Management Resource Center will present “How to Build and Strengthen Your Law Practice” from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 19, 2010 at Thomas M. Cooley Law School’s Cooley Temple Conference Center in Lansing.
This year’s seminar will help attorneys establish law practices, expand existing practices, transition from large firms to small firms, and implement effective law office technology.
The registration fee (which includes a continental breakfast and buffet lunch) is $100 for attorneys and legal support staff, and $75 for law students. Each registrant will also receive “Office in a Flash,” a flash drive full of useful practice management tools and resources.
