Nagy named 2010 golden apple award winner

Teacher, mentor, volunteer. The Genesee County Bar Association's 2010 Golden Apple Award winner, Genesee Intermediate School District GenNet educator, Jeff Nagy, fits the bill.

Nagy was presented with the award at the Association's Annual Law Day luncheon. He was recognized for offering outstanding professional guidance and advice to students and teachers, and for his efforts as a role model who volunteers for worthwhile community projects.
Nagy graduated from Flint Central in 1994 and attended Grand Valley State University studying criminal justice. He worked as a Sheriffs Deputy for Kent County until he decided to return to the Flint area.
Nagy has been with the GISD for five years and teaches law and pre-calculus classes to students at five area high schools. It was through his law classes that he became involved with Law Day and organized a team for the high school Mock Trials.
Executive Director Ramona Sain presented Nagy with the award, stating, "When Jeff Nagy started as a Mock Trial teacher, he jumped in with total enthusiasm, which continues to this day. He recognizes the importance of his students learning about various aspects of the law by visiting the courts and county jail. The students appreciate his hands-on approach to learning."
Nagy volunteers for the Genesee County Bar Foundation and Association Annual Holiday Dinner to feed the less fortunate and also recruits student volunteers. Last year, more than 1,000 area residents were provided a hot meal, gifts for children, and photos taken with Santa Claus.
While accepting the award, Nagy complimented his students for their hard work in preparing for the Law Day Mock Trial competition.
