Noon Rotary Club and JacksonKIDS.org collaboration brings over 400 youthful workers to county

Project Jackson 2011, a collaboration between the Noon Rotary Club of Jackson and JacksonKIDS.org,was in Jackson through July 2. Four hundred forty-three youth and their adult volunteers descended upon Jackson (from as far as away as Montana) to rehabilitate eight Jackson County homes. They stayed in the auditorium at Middle School at Parkside. Each youth paid $424 for the privilege to work on home projects such as ramps, porches, siding, painting, roofing and weatherization. The money the youth paid went for food, lodging and some miscellaneous building supplies. Residents that will benefit from this project are those who have a disability, have low incomes or are of advanced age. The total economic impact in Jackson is estimated between $100,000 and $250,000. "I have grown as a person," said Logan Dodge, past and future youth participant. "I have become closer to God and become an all around better person and team leader. I have learned many lifes kills and want to help give that experience to other people." A typical day's schedule for the youth included getting up at 6:45 a.m. and ending the day at 11 p.m. The week at camp is a life changing experience. Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards, help build good will and peace in the world. Members of a Rotary club are a diverse group of professional leaders working to address community and international service needs and to promote peace and understanding throughout the world.
