State Bar committee service applications due May 13
State Bar President-Elect Julie Fershtman invites Michigan lawyers to apply now for appointment to committees for the 2011-2012 bar year. Service on the committees is voluntary and occurs through an appointment process that begins with an application that must be filed by May 13.
“Committee service is an excellent way that State Bar members can make a difference in the profession and in our system of justice,” Fershtman said. “It provides an invaluable opportunity to meet and work closely with a diverse group of lawyers from all over the state, with different backgrounds and areas of practice. I encourage every member of the State Bar to consider applying for an appointment.”
Nearly 30 standing and special committees work to improve the administration of justice in Michigan by following the State Bar of Michigan's strategic plan. Appointments for the 2011-2012 bar year are expected to be finalized before Sept. 1.
Michigan Townships Association offers scholarship to future local leaders

The scholarship is designed to help Michigan students who are preparing for a career in public administration. Applicants must be a junior, senior or graduate student in a Michigan college or university.
The scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis, and applicants are considered on several factors including academic achievement, community involvement and
commitment to local government administration. Requirements include: a letter of recommendation from a professor or instructor; a copy of a resolution of support from an MTA-member township board in good standing; and a short essay on an important issue facing local government.
All applications are due by May 31, 2011. More information is available online at www.michigantownships.org/rrrschol.asp, or contact MTA at 517-321-6467.
