Applications for State Bar Committee Service due May 13

State Bar President-Elect Julie Fershtman invites Michigan lawyers to apply now for appointment to committees for the 2011-2012 bar year. Service on the committees is voluntary and occurs through an appointment process that begins with an application that must be filed by May 13.

"Committee service is an excellent way that State Bar members can make a difference in the profession and in our system of justice," Fershtman said. "It provides an invaluable opportunity to meet and work closely with a diverse group of lawyers from all over the state, with different backgrounds and areas of practice. I encourage every member of the State Bar to consider applying for an appointment."

Nearly 30 standing and special committees work to improve the administration of justice in Michigan by following the State Bar of Michigan's strategic plan. Appointments for the 2011-2012 bar year are expected to be finalized before Sept. 1.
