The sun was setting over Lake Lansing on a pleasant evening where the Mid-Michigan region of Women Lawyers of Mid-Michigan (WLAM) met on the Rooftop of the Bluegill Grill in Haslett. They gathered to network and discuss the news of the day. The only business discussed was the annual awarding of the Stell Scholarship.
Each year the Mid-Michigan Region of WLAM presents the Carolyn Stell Scholarship Award to a deserving woman law student. The purpose of the scholarship is to promote greater access to the legal system and to better serve the legal needs of women in the community. The scholarship provides financial assistance to women law students and recognizes the achievements of these students.
The eligible woman must:
* Be a resident of Ingham, Eaton or Clinton County
* Be enrolled in a law degree program (either full or part time) at an accredited law school and still be enrolled in a law degree program at the time of the award
* Possess a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and
* Be available to come to a reception at Walnut Hills Country Club in East Lansing, MI on October 13, 2011 at 5:30 p.m.
The applicant must complete the application and submit it by September 30, 2011, request a copy of law school transcript and provide one letter of letter of recommendation from an independent party endorsing the applicant as a scholarship recipient. These items should be sent to WLAM Stell Scholarship Committee, Attention: Nicole L. Proulx, 124 W. Allegan St., Ste. 1000, Lansing, MI 48933 by September 30, 2011.
Selection of the winner is based on academic achievement, financial need and career objectives.
The Mid-Michigan Region provides a source of professional development, support, and networking for lawyers and law students living and/or working in the capitol city area.
Women Lawyers Association of Michigan (WLAM) has more than 700 member attorneys, judges and law students, has worked to secure the rights of women in society since 1909. WLAM's mission to advance the interests of women members of the legal profession, to promote improvements in the administration of justice, and to promote equality and social justice for all people, WLAM has made a difference.
