DDA designates Saturday as 'Shop Your Community' and help local non-profits
The Downtown Development Authority for the City of Jackson (DDA) has designated this Saturday, November 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. as a special "Shop Your Community" day to help local nonprofits.
Over 20 downtown merchants have agreed to donate 10 percent of their receipts to local nonprofits.
Holiday shoppers can ask that 10 percent of their receipt be donated to one or more of approximately 20 local nonprofits chosen to participate in the "Shop Your Community" day by the merchants of the DDA.
The majority of the nonprofits are located in the downtown area.
"We hope the community sees this as a great way to double their giving," said Jonathan Greene, executive director of the DDA.
"First by buying their gifts downtown and supporting our local merchants, and second by having their purchases help our local nonprofits continue their great work."
Shoppers must ask for a "Shop Your Community" receipt at the time of their purchase. Participating merchants will hold receipts for the DDA. The DDA will collect the receipts and calculate the amounts to be forwarded to each nonprofit.
Further information on "Shop Your Community" can be found on the DDA website http://www.jacksondda.org/event, the Nonprofit Network website http://www.nonprofnetwork.org, or by contacting Melissa Woodhurst at (517) 788-4355 or mwoodhurst@cityofjackson.org.
