Ann Arbor attorney announces candidacy for Circuit Judge

Ann Arbor attorney Jim Fink has announced his candidacy for Washtenaw County Circuit Judge, a seat that now belongs to Melinda Morris, who is retiring. ''A good judge ensures that everyone's rights are protected and that all receive equal justice under the law,'' said Fink, in a statement. ''Judges, like all public servants, serve the community. I am running for this position because I am exceptionally qualified.'' Fink, who practices law in Ann Arbor, attended the Detroit College of Law while working as a deputy for the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department. During his 20-year career in the Sheriff's Department, Fink rose through the ranks, retiring as the Police Services Commander, a position in which he was responsible for more than 150 employees and a budget of over $10 million. Fink cited his father, the late Robert V. Fink, and his brother, Karl Fink, both Washtenaw County judges, as reasons for his candidacy. "I'm proud to be part of the tradition of public service and advocacy in our family," said Fink, whose practice focuses on real estate law, business law, and civil rights. In addition to his career in law enforcement, Fink's public service includes sitting on the Dawn Farm Board of Trustees, the Michigan Domestic Violence Prevention and Treatment Board, the Hope Clinic "One Hope" capital campaign committee and providing free legal services to local non-profit organizations. The honorary co-chairs of Fink's campaign are Washtenaw County Water Resources Commissioner Janis Bobrin and Menlo Innovations President Rich Sheridan. A lifelong resident of Washtenaw County, Fink and his wife, Beth, live in Ypsilanti, where they have raised their six children and enjoy visiting with their grandchildren.
