21st Community Holiday Dinner success

For 20 years members of the Genesee County Bar Foundation and Association have vowed not to forget their community. Our members and their families, friends, and co-workers work very hard to provide a festive celebration to those residents who are less fortunate than we.

On Tuesday, December 20, 2011, members of the Foundation and Association held their 21st Annual Community Holiday Dinner at the Masonic Temple in downtown Flint and provided a hot meal of turkey, ham, dressing, salad, and vegetables to 1,230 residents in Genesee County. Entertainment was provided and 531 children had their picture taken with Santa Claus and received a small gift. The dinner was open to anyone in need of a meal or “just a lift” during the holidays. The evening was an overwhelming success and set an all time record for participation.

Despite hard economic times, the dinner was paid in full by donations received from GCBA members and the community. The dinner was prepared by Larry Battiste and the staff of Temple Dining Room, and staffed by members of the Association who set up the dining room, served the food and provided the festivities.

“We hope that in some small way we can help residents of Flint and the surrounding area during this season,” said committee chair Brian Barkey.
