Ann Arbor attorney appointed to IPO's Trade Secret Committee

James Cleland, a shareholder in the Ann Arbor office of Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, has been named a member of the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO) Trade Secret Committee for 2012-2013. Established in 1972, IPO is a trade association for owners of patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. It is the only association in the U.S. that serves all intellectual property owners in all industries and all fields of technology. Cleland's intellectual property law practice at Brinks focuses on large multinational corporations, as well as small corporations and individual clients in a variety of patent, trademark, copyright, unfair competition and trade secret settings. He specializes in patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret and unfair competition litigation in a broad range of technologies including the chemical, materials science, mechanical and medical device arts, as well as in client counseling, opinion and licensing work in those same areas. Cleland is a resident of Ann Arbor and holds a J.D. from the Indiana University School of Law and a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan. He has thrice been named a Rising Star by Michigan Super Lawyers, which recognizes the top up-and-coming attorneys in the state who are 40 years old or younger or have practiced for less than ten years.
