Cooley announces promotions at Ann Arbor campus
Three faculty members at Cooley Law School in Ann Arbor have been promoted to full professor.
Mark Cooney
Before joining the Cooley faculty, Mark Cooney was in practice with Collins, Einhorn, Garrell & Ulanoff, P.C., in Southfield. His areas of practice included legal-malpractice defense, medical-malpractice defense, insurance coverage, and general tort defense. Cooney began his career handling all aspects of civil litigation, including trials, but eventually turned his focus to appellate work. He successfully briefed and argued appeals in the Michigan Supreme Court, the Michigan Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Cooney earned his bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and his J.D. summa cum laude from Cooley Law School.
David Finnegan
Before coming to Cooley, David Finnegan practiced law in Washington, D.C., at King & Spalding (1995-1997), Kelley Drye & Warren (1994-1995), and Pillsbury Madison & Sutro (1992-1994). His practice included domestic and international antitrust law, international investment dispute arbitration, government contracts investigations and related litigation. Finnegan earned his bachelor's degree from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, his J.D. with honors from the University of Michigan Law School, and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. In law school, he served as editor-in-chief of the Michigan Journal of International Law. His area of research focuses on law and policy reform in Africa and other developing regions.
Mara Kent
Mara Kent was in private practice as an appellate attorney specializing in civil rights and employment law before joining the Cooley faculty. She graduated second in her class in law school and was editor of the University of Detroit Mercy Law Review. She served as a judicial law clerk for Michigan Supreme Court Justice Michael F. Cavanagh. Kent earned her B.F.A. degree from the University of Michigan and her J.D. summa cum laude from the University of Detroit Mercy.
