SBM Paralegal section to host Annual Day of Education
The State Bar of Michigan Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section and the Association of Litigation Support Professionals, Michigan Chapter, will present an "Annual Day of Education" from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 4 at Oakland University's Oakland Center Building, located at 2200 North Squirrel Road in Rochester.
The Day of Education will begin with a keynote address on "Exceptional Performance" by Donna Kutylowski, a trainer at A-1 Exceptional Performance. During luncheon, Paralegal Essay Awards will be presented to the contest's winners.
The rest of the day will feature four seminar tracks:
* Track A focuses on a LexisNexis report on ediscovery trends and cases, the ethics of online communications, and the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act.
* Track B focuses on persevering and prospering in difficult economic times, the paperless office, and information on going to law school.
* The ALSP Track A will focus on building a litigation support practice, intellectual property theft/cloud forensics, and ESI workflows - best practices in ediscovery project management.
* The ALSP Track B will focus on social media, career planning in litigation support, and current trends/new technologies.
The cost to attend the day of education is $40 for SBM Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section members, $75 for non-members, and $30 for students, if registered before April 30. There will be a $90 late fee for all registrations received after April 30. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Hilton Suites in Auburn Hills. The group rate is $85, and a reservation can be made by calling (248) 334-2222 and referring to the group code SBM before April 20.
The Day of Education will be preceded by a networking reception called "'Legal Affairs' ... A Red Carpet Event" from 6-10 p.m. on Thursday, May 3 in the Atrium at the Hilton Suites, 2300 Featherstone Road in Auburn Hills. The reception is $15 for those registered for the Annual Day of Education and $25 for everyone else. The event will feature food, drinks, photo sessions, raffle prizes and mock awards, and attendees are encouraged to dress like their favorite movie characters in cocktail/formal attire.
