The Oakland County Republican Party’s 2012 Annual Salute to Justice Banquet recently honored retired Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Fred Mester with a Special Lifetime Achievement award on Wednesday, June 13, at Tre Monti Ristorante in Troy.

The award was presented to Mester by Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson.

According to Patterson the organization chooses an individual who has “gone above and beyond their normal duties and given back to the community in so many ways and Fred Mester was a unanimous choice this year.”

“He’s been involved in so many projects to help the City of Pontiac through its tough financial times and Fred’s out there working with all sorts of groups and gives generously of his time and is a fine one to recognize,” Patterson said.

“It is gratifying not only to be presented with this award by one for whom I have such high regard, but to receive it within this annual celebration of our justice system – ‘A Salute to Justice,’” Mester said after Patterson gave him the award.

Mester was humbled by the award and noted that he wouldn’t have been able to accomplish what he has without the help of many others who give so unselfishly of their time.
In his acceptance speech, Mester gave several examples of those who have stepped beyond themselves to help when needed and repeatedly asked, “If not now, when? If not me, who?”

Also during the banquet, the family of Hazel Park Police Officer Jessica Nagle-Wilson, who was killed in the line of duty, was presented with the Distinguished Service Award.
