Environmental Regulatory Conference Nov. 14 in Lansing

The State Bar of Michigan Environmental Law Section and the East Michigan and West Michigan Chapters of the Air & Waste Management Association will host a conference called "Michigan's Environment in 2012 and Beyond: Developments and Emerging Issues in the Management and Regulation of Air, Water, Energy and Waste," from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Lansing Community College's West Campus in Lansing. The conference will address the most urgent environmental issues facing Michigan companies in the coming year, and is aimed at plant managers, environmental managers, facility managers, environmental professionals, environmental attorneys, and persons responsible for environmental reporting. Valerie Brader, Deputy Legal Counsel and Senior Policy Advisor to Governor Rick Snyder, will present a keynote speech on "The View from Lansing: Objectives and Priorities for the Direction of Michigan Environmental Policy." Other speakers include Honigman, Miller, Schwartz and Cohn LLP Partner and Conference Chair, S. Lee Johnson, Wayne State University Great Lakes Environmental Law Center Executive Director Nick Schroeck, Lake Michigan Air Directors Consortium Executive Director, Rob Kaleel, and Michigan Recycling Coalition Executive Director Kerrin O'Brien. Directors from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality will present a panel discussion, and other panel discussions throughout the day will cover the following topics: "The Role of Courts in Challenging Agency Decisionmaking," ''A Waste is a Terrible Thing to Mind: Defining Waste and Non-Hazardous Secondary Materials," and "Powering Michigan's Future: How Our Energy Needs Will Be Met For Years to Come."
