Assembly will address justice selection, rules
By Traci Gentilozzi

Former Michigan Supreme Court Justice Marilyn Kelly will be talking about the selection of high court justices at the April 27 State Bar Representative Assembly meeting.
Over the years, Michigan's justice selection process has been criticized for its excessive cost, lack of transparency, and damaging negativity.
Kelly will be offering her insight on the April 2012 "Michigan Judicial Selection Task Force Report and Recommendations." She was one of the task force leaders.
In addition to the selection of justices, the assembly will also address:
* MCR 2.306 (depositions on oral exam).
* MCR 2.203 (joining additional parties).
* MRPC 7.1 (law firm advertising).
* A resolution to amend the Michigan Constitution to delete the prohibition on being appointed or elected to judicial office after age 70.
* The development of an inventory rule in Michigan.
The assembly is the State Bar of Michigan's final policy-making body. The meeting is open to the public and will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Lansing Community College West Campus in Lansing.
The complete meeting agenda is at http://www.michbar.org /generalinfo/assembly.cfm
