Pro Bono Month Calls Attention to Unmet Civil Legal Needs of the Poor in Michigan
For the fifth year, the State Bar of Michigan has designated October as Pro Bono Month. Again this year, the State Bar's goal is to increase the number of pro bono events held in October and to publicize awareness of the need for pro bono legal services in the state.
Last year there were a record number of pro bono events during October, when Michigan organizations participated in Pro Bono Month by organizing more than 40 clinics, trainings, pro bono fairs, pro bono pledges, award ceremonies and other events for the public and pro bono attorneys.
If you haven't planned an event yet, please join us in celebrating Pro Bono Month this year by organizing a pro bono event during the month of October. The State Bar's Pro Bono Month website includes information, suggestions for organizing events, and links to talking points for Michigan's "Now more than ever-pro bono is more than just the right thing to do" theme.
Keep visiting http://www.michbar.org/probono.cfm for updates that will be posted as they are available. And make sure you register your Pro Bono Month event on the State Bar's Pro Bono Month website so the State Bar will publicize your event.
If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact Robert Mathis, SBM Pro Bono Service Counsel, at (517) 346-6412 or rmathis@mail.michbar.org.
