Ask a Lawyer Pro Bono event seeks volunteers

The State Bar of Michigan has proclaimed October as Pro Bono Month. In light of Michigan's struggling economy, it is particularly important that Pro Bono opportunities are available for its residents. The American Bar Association also designates a week in October each year as national pro bono week.

In honor of Pro Bono Month, the Ingham County Bar Association and Legal Services of South Central Michigan announce the return of "Ask-A-Lawyer" on Thursday, October 10th, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the offices of Clark Hill PLC, 212 East Grand River Avenue, Lansing, Michigan 48906.

The purpose of this event is to provide members of our community with access to an attorney for a free consultation of up to 30 minutes. (Note: This consultation does not create an attorney client relationship and participants will be asked to sign an agreement to that effect).

This is the annual "Ask-A-Lawyer" event in Lansing this year. At prior "Ask-A-Lawyer" events, more than five-dozen people seeking free legal advice took advantage of the opportunity. Most of those participating came from the Lansing and East Lansing areas, though some attendees came from Fowler, Owosso, Charlotte, and Grand Blanc.

Attorney Mary Chartier of Alane & Chartier, P.L.C., participated in prior events and found the events helpful to the attendees, but also fulfilling for the lawyers. "I think that we helped a lot of people and that is always a great feeling. I was proud to participate in such a well-organized and positive event."
