Festive Affair

Mother Nature wasn’t particularly kind during Saturday’s 31st annual Spring Fling Courthouse Show on the Square in Mason as the blustery, sometimes rainy weather kept crowds down compared to last year’s perfect May weekend.
“The weather wasn’t the worst we’ve ever had for Spring Fling, but it wasn’t the best either!” agreed Mason Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Douglas Klein, noting that the day actually turned out better than initial forecasts predicted.
Still, for many it just wouldn’t be springtime without the festival, which was hosted by the Mason Area Chamber of Commerce, with LAFCU as this year’s presenting sponsor.  The four-day Spring Fling included many events sponsored by community groups, including a blood drive on Thursday, the Mason State Bank 5K on Friday,  and bingo on Sunday, with the main event on Saturday surrounding the historic Ingham County Courthouse.
“Many people look at the festival as our first chance to really say hello to our neighbors after the long winter,” said Klein, adding that the Down Home Days festival in September is considered by some the time to say goodbye to neighbors for the winter.
