Snyder appoints Gadola to Court of Appeals

Gov. Rick Snyder earlier this month appointed Michael Gadola of Haslett to the Michigan Court of Appeals. "Mike is an outstanding addition to the Court of Appeals," Snyder said. "He is widely respected for his legal acumen, as well as his personal and professional integrity. This appointment will expand Mike's impressive record of public service. I have every confidence that he will uphold the court's highest standards through his commitment to fairness and thoughtful reasoning." Gadola fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge William Whitbeck in November. He must seek election in 2016 for a full six-year term. Gadola has served as the governor's legal counsel since 2011, providing guidance on litigation and a wide variety of legal and policy matters. From 2001 to 2010 he was counsel to the Michigan Supreme Court and general counsel to the State Court Administrative Office. He also served as House majority counsel, deputy legal counsel to former Gov. John Engler, director of the Office of Regulatory Reform, and was an attorney with Dickinson, Wright, Moon, VanDusen & Freeman in Detroit and Lansing. Gadola is active in the community as well. He is a fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation and a member of the Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society. Gadola also is a former chairman of the Saint Vincent Catholic Charities board of directors, and a former board member of the Boys & Girls Club of Lansing. He earned a bachelor's degree with a concentration in international relations from Michigan State University's James Madison College and graduated with honors from Wayne State University Law School.
