Helen "Lizzie" Mills, an attorney with the Okemos-based law firm, Fahey Schultz Burzych Rhodes PLC, has been recognized as one of the "Top 5" attorneys under the age of 35 in Ingham County for 2015. Award recipients were selected by the Board of Directors of the Ingham County Bar Association, based on commendable character, integrity, judgment and legal scholarship; service to the profession and the Bar; service to the community; and reputation for the advancement of the highest legal standards and professional responsibility.
Mills, who will be recognized at the Association's Annual Barristers Night in March, joined the firm in 2010, after graduating second in her class and receiving her law degree magna cum laude from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. She is an active attorney in the areas of municipal law and labor and employment law, two of the firm's core practice areas, and represents and counsels public and private sector clients all over the state in municipal and labor and employment matters.
Mills also volunteers her time serving the legal profession and the community. She regularly judges simulated congressional hearings at a local high school, in addition to participating as a judge in statewide middle school debate competitions through the State YMCA and Michigan Youth in Government programs. Last October, she spearheaded promoting the Ingham County Bar's "Ask a Lawyer" event, which drew record-high public participation. This spring, she will join the Board of Directors for Highfields, a multi-purpose, human services organization that touches the lives of more than 6,000 people in mid-Michigan each year.
