State Rep. Brett Roberts (R-65th District) has announced a summer reading contest for grades 1-5.
The contest-whose winner will be decided in early September-measures how many books each participant reads over the course of their summer break.
"Reading at home is one of the most useful tools that a child can use to build on the resources given to them throughout the school year," Roberts said. "As a parent of two young children, I make an attempt as often as I can to ensure that reading is a part of their everyday lives."
An official book report form can be downloaded from Rep. Roberts' website at http://gophouse.org/representatives/central/roberts/.
Book reports will show how much the student has learned about the plot of each book that they read.
In order to qualify for the contest, students should turn in their reports to Rep. Roberts' office by September 8. Essays may be submitted via email to BrettRoberts@house.mi.gov.
The winner will become a Representative for a day, and attend lunch and part of a House session with Rep. Roberts in his Lansing office and the Capitol.
"I look forward to welcoming our lucky winner into my office," Rep. Roberts said. "This contest is a great way for our young, bright minds to get involved with reading over the summer, and I sincerely hope to see all of our local students participating."
