An Intellectual Property Specialist with Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP, paralegal in Lansing, Andrea Herzberg has always had an interest in researching, reading and writing, and an interest in the legal field that she viewed as ever evolving.

When an advisor at Baker College in Jackson showed Herzberg the potential available in the legal field for a paralegal, she knew that she had found a career niche that combined her interests.

“I enjoy the research and learning new and interesting things,” she says. “I feel I’m constantly challenged to figure out answers and solutions to problems. I get to work with different tools, such as Thomson Innovations, in order to do research and learn new things about intellectual property law.

“I enjoy working at Honigman because I’m surrounded by great people,” she adds.  “My co-workers are extremely helpful and very knowledgeable, I feel privileged to be a part of such an amazing team of people.

“And I really like that I’m close to MSU where I received my B.A. in English Literature before going to Baker College. Go Green!”

The Jackson native enjoyed her paralegal courses at Baker. “I really like how the instructors are actual attorneys with a lot of experience in the fields they teach,” she says.  “They brought a lot of real life experience into the classroom, which made things more interesting.  One instructor in particular has an extensive background in all types of law – he really brought the legal field to life by sharing his stories and personal experiences in class.”

Herzberg gives back to the program by serving on its Board. “I enjoy working with others who share my passion for education and the legal field and being able to have input into the Paralegal program at Baker,” she says.

“As members of the Board, we’re able to give feedback on what needs to be included in the program and what parts of the program helped prepare us the most to work in the legal field.”

Herzberg and her fiancé Eric make their home in Jackson, with their children Hailey, Xavier, Bella, Cameron and Christian. Herzberg spends her down time with her family, gardening, or reading a new book.  “I usually will read pretty much anything I can get my hands on,” she says. “Reading is how I take a break and relax.”
