One of the country’s oldest minority-based firms, Lewis & Munday, P.C. has named Reginald G. Dozier its new President & CEO.
The firm also named two new partners: Ronda Tate Truvillion and Ngozi E. Nwaesei. Ms. Truvillion and Ms. Nwaesei are members of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group and Real Estate Practice group, respectively.
“We are pleased and proud to announce that these two talented and dedicated attorneys are becoming partners in our firm,” said Reginald G. Dozier.
Mr. Dozier, formerly the chair of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group, was elected by a unanimous vote of its shareholders. Mr. Dozier has been with Lewis & Munday for 15 years and has over 25 years of courtroom experience. He succeeds Blair A. Person.
“I’m elated with his election as new president,” said David Baker Lewis, Of Counsel and former Lewis & Munday CEO. “He’s been a steady performer, a well respected attorney, and a person very involved in the community for a number of years. He symbolizes the leadership that Lewis & Munday seeks to emulate and represents a new generation of leaders in the firm.”
Lewis said past presidents, Richard T. White, Reuben A. Munday and Blair A. Person, and himself, have contributed to the constant growth of the firm and believes that Dozier will continue the firm’s legacy of success.
“Reginald Dozier has been an important member of the firm for many years and we look forward to his leadership as President and CEO of the firm,” said Reuben A. Munday, Chairman of Lewis & Munday.
Dozier has devoted his 30 years in law to complex commercial disputes, corporate, labor and employment, and municipal litigation. He also holds extensive experience in school law and has advised several public school district clients.
Dozier started his career in law enforcement at the Detroit Police Department in 1978, where he rose to become a Sergeant, and the Commanding Officer of the Legal Advisor Unit.
Before joining Lewis & Munday in 2000, Dozier was an associate at Reynolds, Beeby and Magnuson, P.C., founder and president of Dozier, Turner and Braceful, P.C. from 1992-97, and worked as a partner at Clark Hill, PLC from 1998-2000.
“I am humbled by this vote of confidence by my colleagues and shareholders, as I have always viewed Lewis & Munday as a model firm of very talented law professionals,” he said. “It is my intent to continue the fine legacy established at this firm by aggressively recruiting young talent and providing stellar services to our clients in Michigan and beyond.”
The company, one of the country’s oldest and largest African American owned and operated firms, has more than four decades of experience providing efficient, creative and comprehensive legal services in the areas of public/municipal, corporate, real estate law and litigation to the metro Detroit area.
Early on, the firm became known for changing the face of the “mainstream” practice of law under the leadership of David Baker Lewis, Richard T. White and the Honorable Eric Lee Clay. Reuben A. Munday became partner in 1977.
Dozier said the firm now has a mixture of experience and historical knowledge of Detroit and the surrounding areas, along with new and vibrant emerging talent.
As president, Dozier is tasked with taking the firm further into the Southeast Michigan region and beyond.
“We’ve done a lot with the city of Detroit,” he said, “We want to expand around the state and do more work nationwide and with Fortune 500 companies.” The firm also has offices in Washington, D.C. and New York, NY.
Dozier completed his undergraduate at the Howard University and the University of Michigan. He received his Juris Doctorate from Detroit College of Law.
