Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest’s oldest and largest law firms, recently welcomed former Michigan Court of Appeals clerk Nicole C. Ruggirello to the firm as the newest attorney in its Insurance Law Practice Group.
Ruggirello, who previously clerked for Judge Michael J. Riordan, is a member of the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office. She represents property and casualty insurance providers in coverage litigation that involves such complex issues as environmental contamination, construction defects, and products liability.
“We are very fortunate to add Nicole to our growing insurance coverage practice,” said Robert G. Kamenec, who is Plunkett Cooney’s Insurance, Professional Liability and Governmental Law Department Leader. “Nicole is an outstanding advocate and excels at resolving complex matters on behalf of her clients.”
In addition to her clerkship, she worked as a judicial intern on behalf of Michigan Supreme Court Justice Stephen Markman and Chief Judge Gerald Rosen of the U. S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
Ruggirello, who received both her law degree and undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association and the State Bar of Michigan for which she serves as a panel member for the Character and Fitness District Committee.
Plunkett Cooney is recognized as one of the nation’s leading law firms for insurance coverage litigation. Several members of the firm’s Insurance Law Practice Group have been awarded the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation. In addition to their litigation expertise, Plunkett Cooney attorneys work with their clients to develop new insurance products and to address emergent theories of legal liability.
Established in 1913, Plunkett Cooney employs 150 attorneys in nine Michigan cities, Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana. The firm, which provides a range of transactional and litigation services, has achieved the highest rating (AV) awarded by Martindale-Hubbell, a leading, international directory of law firms. Fortune magazine has also named Plunkett Cooney among the top commercial firms in the United States.
