Plunkett Cooney attorney Nichols named 'Up and Coming Lawyer'

Plunkett Cooney employment law attorney, Courtney L. Nichols, was recently named an “Up & Coming Lawyer” by Michigan Lawyers Weekly (MLW), an industry publication serving the state’s legal community.

“I’m thrilled for Courtney to receive this honor,” said Theresa Smith Lloyd, the firm’s Labor & Employment Law Practice Group Leader who nominated Nichols for the honor. “She is very focused on her work and has quickly become a formidable advocate for her clients in the courtroom.”

Members of the MLW editorial staff reviewed numerous “Up & Coming Lawyer” nominations. Particular emphasis is placed on legal accomplishments within each nominee’s first 10 years of practice. After the nomination review process was completed, 30 honorees were selected and interviewed for a special section in the legal industry publication. Honorees will also be saluted by the newspaper and members of the state’s legal community during an “Up & Coming Lawyers Award Luncheon” on December 17 at the Detroit Marriott in Troy.

A member of the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office, Nichols represents employers in workforce-related litigation, including disputes involving allegations of wrongful termination, discrimination and whistleblower claims. She also represents and advises employers on important employment issues pertaining to various state and federal statutes, including ELCRA, FMLA, ADA, FLSA and Title VII.

Nichols received her law degree, cum laude, from Chicago-Kent College of Law. While there, she received several academic awards, including a CALI Award and merit scholarship, and she was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society. Nichols received her undergraduate degree from the James Madison College at Michigan State University in 2008.

Prior to joining the firm, Nichols completed an externship for the Honorable Samuel Der-Yeghiayan of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
