NALS of Lansing hosted a “Covert Murder Mystery” on Aug. 27, at the KOA in Covert/South Haven. Above left, Assistant Prosecutor Mike McKay of Van Buren County spoke about jury selection, instructions, voir dire, and trial prep. Above right, NALS members assisted Chief Jay Allen of Covert Township, pictured with NALS?of Lansing President Heidi Hopper, in solving the “Death Gets a Red Card” murder mystery produced by Janet Dickey. Chief Allen put his new “deputies” through the investigative mindset, guided them through the initial finding of the body, how to preserve evidence, how to perform witness interviews, and how to review the evidence. The team concluded the investigation with search warrants and determined – despite lack of lab reports – that a soccer coach killed Jamie Stokes, who played for the Welshire Warriors.
