Judge David M. Murkowski, Chief Judge of the Kent County Probate Court, was elected president of the Michigan Probate Judges Association (MPJA) by his peers at the association’s annual conference held at the Black Lake Conference Center in Onaway, Michigan. Murkowski will take office October 1, 2016. Judge Murkowski previously served as council member of the Probate and Estate Planning Section of the State Bar of Michigan and was a contributor to the drafting of the Michigan Trust Code. He is a recipient of the Judicial Contributions in Law and Aging Award from Elder Law of Michigan and the Leader in the Law Award from Lawyers Weekly. Judge Murkowski stated “The purpose of our association is to promote justice, professional excellence and respect for the law, to foster the dignity and integrity of the judiciary, and to serve the needs of our members and the larger legal community. There is no finer group of men or women dedicated to the administration of justice than the members of the Michigan Probate Judges Association.”
