Constitution Day, annually observed on September 17 to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787 in Philadelphia, was marked a day early last Friday at the Oakland County Commissioners Auditorium as part of a special program presented by the Oakland County Circuit and Probate Courts. Holocaust survivor Irene Miller, was the keynote speaker at the event, sharing her family’s experience of trying to escape the horrors of the Holocaust “in the ghettos of Poland, in the tundras of Siberia, and the deserts of Uzbekistan, while surviving on boiled grass and broiled onions,” according to Oakland County Circuit Judge Michael Warren, who spearheaded the program that was part of local Patriot Week activities. Birmingham resident Mary Beth Adderley also was among the featured speakers September 16, recounting the tragedy of losing her son, Terence Jr. (Ted), in the World Trade Center attacks on 9/11. In the accompanying photo, Mary Beth Adderley is pictured at back right with Judge Warren, Irene Miller, and Circuit Court Judge Wendy Potts.
