Grand Rapids Bar Association welcomes new officers and trustees


The results of the 2017 elections are in. Kevin O’Dowd is the new Vice President; Scott Melton, the new Treasurer; and Ingrid A. Jensen will take over as Secretary.

The new trustees are Christopher Hastings, Richard E. Zambon, and Jeffrey M. Black. They will join Michael D. Adams, Charissa Huang, Bradley A. Fowler,  Anita L. Hitchcock, Andrea J. Bernard, and Thomas G. Sinas.

Elizabeth Joy Fossel will assume the office of President as  the Hon. Christopher P. Yates moves into the ex-officio Immediate Past President position. Vice President  Randall L. Velzen will move up to President-Elect.

Foster Swift welcomes Schlender to its Holland office



Foster Swift welcomes attorney Brett Schlender to the firm.  He will be joining Foster Swift’s litigation group in the Holland office.

Schlender focuses his practice in real estate and business, litigation, family law, and estate planning. He has extensive experience in real estate brokerage and insurance litigation. Brett counsels individuals, families, and businesses in divorce and family proceedings, civil disputes and business transactions.

Schlender also holds several leadership positions in the Holland community. He serves on the Board of Directors for Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity and AT53, Inc. Brett received a degree in psychology from Hope College and is an Ohio Northern University College of Law alum.
