Beth Rivers Elected Fellow of The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers

Beth Rivers has been elected a Fellow of The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. Rivers is a partner with Royal Oak-based Pitt McGehee Palmer & Rivers, a civil and employment rights law firm.

“Beth is a recognized leader in the employment law community and a dedicated advocate for workers. Being elected by her peers for this is well-deserved recognition for the outstanding and successful work she always does for her clients,” said Michael Pitt, co-founding partner of the firm.

The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers is a non-profit professional association honoring those attorneys, who by their long and outstanding service, have distinguished themselves as leaders in the field of labor and employment law. Election as a Fellow is the highest recognition by a labor and employment attorney’s colleagues of sustained outstanding performance in the profession, exemplifying integrity, dedication and excellence.

Rivers has devoted her entire legal career to advocating for individuals in employment discrimination and civil rights cases. She has successfully briefed and argued in a variety of venues, including the Michigan Court of Appeals, Michigan Supreme Court and many federal appellate courts.

She was responsible for two landmark decisions interpreting the Older Worker’s Benefit Protection Act in federal court. In addition, Rivers wrote a brief to the New Jersey Supreme Court on behalf of the plaintiff-employee in a case in which the court ruled that employers must abide by policies and procedures contained in handbooks and manuals.

Rivers is currently a member of the Flint Class Action Legal Team, a group of law firms and attorneys representing thousands of Flint residents in several class actions filed in the aftermath of lead contamination of the city’s public water system.

In addition, Rivers is a member of the American Civil Liberties Union, National Lawyers Guild, National Employment Lawyers Association, Michigan Association for Justice and State Bar of Michigan Labor and Employment Section.
She is a graduate of Rutgers University and University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.
