Kimberlee Hillock, an attorney with Willingham & Cotè P.C., in East Lansing, has been appointed Judge Advocate for American Legion, Department of Michigan.
The primary duty is to advise the Post, Post Officers and Executive Board on all legal matters, including the construction and interpretation of the Legion constitution and bylaws, to ensure the proper conduct of post business, and to procure proper counsel on behalf of the Department. The Judge Advocate is to preside over all trials, with the power and authority to pass upon the materiality and relevancy of all evidence as well as the power to prescribe the rules and procedures of the trial. The Judge Advocate also serves as the Chairman of the Legal and By-Laws Committees and is tasked with the duty of auditing all financial accounts.
As America’s largest wartime veterans’ organization, the American Legion is committed to mentoring and sponsorship of wholesome programs in the community, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans.
Hillock is chair of the Appellate Work practice area at Willingham & Coté, P.C., as well as chair of the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel’s Amicus Committee and a member of the Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society Advocates Guild.
A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, who served during Operation Desert Storm, Hillock is a member of the American Legion and the Marine Corps League. She currently volunteers as a Veteran Mentor in the Ingham County Veterans’ Treatment Court.
