The D. Augustus Straker Bar Association, in partnership with Lakeshore Legal Aid and Southfield Human Services, hosted an Expungement Clinic January 8 at the Southfield Public Library. The program was designed to help residents of Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties clear their criminal records if they had been found guilty of up to two misdemeanors and/or one felony while residing in Michigan, according to Kimberley Ann Ward, a board member of the Straker Bar and co-chair of its Community Action Committee. “The clinic was scheduled from 2-6 p.m., but we kept the doors open another hour-and-a-half to accommodate those who wanted to participate in the program,” said Ward, who noted that organizers handled some 240 intake forms to determine eligibility for the expungement process. “We are excited about the partnership, and the opportunity to provide much needed pro bono legal services to residents of the tri-county area.”
