Roberts Kengis appointed to 48th Circuit Court in Allegan County

On February 28, 2018, Gov. Rick Snyder announced the appointment of Roberts Kengis to the 48th Circuit Court, Allegan County.

Rob has faithfully served Allegan County both as the elected County Prosecutor and as an Assistant Prosecutor for the past 25 years, Snyder said. I am confident that his legal experience and reputation for fairness will help him continue to serve Allegan County residents well.

Kengis has worked as a prosecutor in Allegan County since 1992. Kengis was the Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney from 2011 to 2016 before being elected Prosecuting Attorney in 2016. In these roles, he assisted in establishing the Allegan County Drug Treatment Court and the West Michigan Regional Veterans Treatment Court.

Kengis is a member of the Allegan County Bar Association and the Allegan County Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force. He is a former member of the Allegan County Methamphetamine Initiative and the statewide committee that wrote the Michigan Drug Endangered Children Response Protocol and the Michigan Drug Endangered Children Medical Protocol. Kengis serves on the executive board of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran United Church of Kalamazoo and is a member of the board of directors of the Allegan General Hospital Foundation.

Kengis earned a bachelor’s degree from University of Michigan in 1989 and a law degree from Wayne State University Law School in 1992.

Kengis fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Kevin W. Cronin. He must seek election in November 2018 to fill the remainder of the term.
