'Juneteenth Celebration'

Black Law Students Association (BLSA) students from WMU-Cooley Law School volunteered in Lansing’s Juneteenth parade and events at St. Joseph’s Park, followed by a BBQ in Frances Park for WMU-Cooley students, faculty, family and friends. Juneteenth celebrates the June 19, 1865 announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas. BLSA members met with two important figures in the Lansing community—Dr. Olivia Letts, the first African American to be hired by the Lansing School District; and Dr. Herschel J.  Roper, a community leader, teacher, coach, and youth leader. Letts and Roper are flanked by BLSA students.
