Michigan’s annual bike helmet giveaway and bicycle safety event, Lids for Kids, just wrapped up another season.

In its 16th year in Lansing, along with annual giveaways in Grand Rapids and Traverse City, 2018 was the most successful yet with more than 1,500 free helmets fitted and given away to children.

The common denominator at all three giveaways included helmet fitting, a bicycle raffle, games, and fun.

Local organizations and sponsors supported the event through bike donations and hosting interactive booths.

In Lansing, Sparty and Big Lug posed for photo opportunities.

The face painting table was a favorite with kids, members of Lansing’s Masonic Temple Lodge #33 provided free child ID kits, and local law enforcement and firefighters gave engine and vehicle tours.

Sinas Dramis Law Firm, Brain Injury Association of Michigan, Origami Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center, and Michigan Association for Justice sponsor the Lansing Lids for Kids event. Local media partners include WLAJ, WLNS, and Q106.
