Timmer appointed interim dean at WMU-Cooley Law School
Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School has appointed Amy Timmer to be interim dean effective Oct. 22. The appointment was announced to faculty and staff by WMU-Cooley’s Interim President Jeffrey Martlew, who assumed office Sept. 1.
“Amy’s 22-year career as associate dean of students and professionalism is an asset to WMU-Cooley and her skills make her a great choice as interim dean,” said Martlew. “Her work implementing the law school’s professional plan has gained national attention including the ABA Professionalism Award.”
Timmer joined the WMU-Cooley faculty in 1992, teaching torts and equity & remedies. In 1996, she became the associate dean of students and in 2000 was named associate dean of students and professionalism. She has published books and articles on torts and professionalism and has spoken at programs offered by the American Bar Association, the Association of American Law Schools, the National Association of Law Placement, the Nelson Mullins Center on Professionalism, the National Institute for Teaching Ethics and Professionalism, the Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs, the Council of Bar Admissions Administrators, the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers, the National Legal Mentoring Consortium, and the National Conference of Bar Executives. Since 2008, Timmer has taught the professional development course at WMU-Cooley. She has received numerous teaching awards from the school.
“From its beginnings, WMU-Cooley has a tradition of providing a quality practical learning environment for law students. I am honored to take on the role of interim dean as the board continues their search for its next president,” said Timmer.
Timmer graduated in 1988 summa cum laude from WMU-Cooley and after passing the bar she practiced law at Honigman Miller Schwartz & Cohn. Before that, she had a 10-year career in economic development and environmental regulation with the Michigan Department of Commerce after graduating from James Madison College at Michigan State University in 1978.
Timmer is a fellow of the National Institute for Teaching Ethics and Professionalism, a fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation, and was designated in 2012 by Michigan Lawyers Weekly as one of its top women in the law.
Krueger joins Foster Swift’s Trusts & Estates practice group
Attorney Warren H. Krueger III has joined the Foster Swift Trusts & Estates practice group. He will practice in the Lansing office, focusing in the areas of estate planning, estate administration and probate, civil litigation and real property.
In the area of trusts and estates, Krueger represents fiduciaries and beneficiaries in disputes such as construction of wills and trusts, contested validity of wills and trusts and actions brought against fiduciaries among others. He also advises clients in planning and preparing estate documents to achieve their unique goals.
Krueger has represented clients in numerous complex multi-million dollar real estate acquisition and development projects and frequently advises and represents commercial property owners, condominium associations and management companies in real property matters. He also has represented clients in various civil litigation matters in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate level.
Honored as one of the ‘Top 5 under 35’ attorneys in Ingham County, Krueger is a graduate of Michigan State University and earned his J.D. at the DePaul University College of Law.
Loomis, Ewert, Parsley, Davis & Gotting P.C. welcomes two new attorneys
Alan G. Aboona and Mark A. Iafrate have joined Loomis, Ewert, Parsley, Davis & Gotting P.C. in Lansing as associate attorneys.
Aboona graduated summa cum laude from Michigan State University College of Law where he was an associate editor on Law Review and a member of the Patent Moot Court team. During law school, he externed for the Michigan Judicial Institute, Michigan Court of Appeals, Research Division, and the Department of Attorney General, Health Care Fraud Division.
Iafrate is an alumnus of MSU’s James Madison College and graduated summa cum laude from MSU Law. As a law student he externed for the Hon. Judge McKeague of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan, and the Ionia County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Prior to law school, Iafrate worked as the Refugee Services Housing Coordinator for St. Vincent Catholic Charities in Lansing.
