Muskegon will hold food hall - a local pop up event

Gathering with friends and neighbors to try tempting new food items from an eclectic variety of inspirations, innovations and cuisines at the “Muskegon Food Hall: A Local Pop Up Event”  on Friday, June 28 from 4:30-7 p.m. at Kitchen 242 and The Muskegon Farmers Market in downtown Muskegon.

The West Michigan Shoreline Food Processing Initiative seeks to support local chefs and food entrepreneurs and excite the Lakeshore by test-marketing the “food hall” concept locally with this unique culinary event.

The Muskegon Food Hall will feature six small plates – five entrees and one dessert – along with a specialty cocktail in the food hall format. Just think of a “food court for foodies,” which have been around the country in large cities for years but are now being developed in all-sized markets.

The Muskegon-based food processing Initiative – a collaboration of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County, Consumers Energy Foundation, the City of Muskegon and Muskegon County – wants to encourage and develop local culinary talent using locally grown, healthy foods. The event hopes to prove there is a market for a permanent local food hall downtown in the future.

The Muskegon Food Hall event, a fundraiser for Kitchen 242, is sponsored by Kitchen 242 – the community commercial incubator kitchen at the farmers market – and Baker College of Muskegon’s renowned Culinary Institute of Michigan.

For $50 per person, participants will have a chance to try unique small plates from CIM’s advanced student chefs and a Muskegon Food Hall special cocktail designed the CIM beverage class. A cash bar for local craft beers and regional wines and a special juice and coffee from the Coffee Factory will also be available. Also participating in the event are
NOVA Super.Natural.Bakery and Nafasi, a new collaborative to bring a diversity of chefs and food options downtown.

Tickets are limited to keep food quality high and to provide an intimate gathering with food enthusiasts and the student chefs.
