Nominations sought for Harold White award

The City of Jackson Human Relations Commission (HRC) is accepting nominations for the Harold White Awards that honor the late community organizer who died in 2001.

White served on several boards, including United Way, Catholic Social Services, City of Jackson Human Relations Commission, and the A. Phillip Randolph Foundation. He served for almost 15 years as president of the Jackson County Branch NAACP; and was active with the Boy Scouts.

Nominations are due no later than Friday, August 30.

New this year, the HRC will recognize three individuals/organizations for their work surrounding volunteerism, diversity, and inclusion.

Winners will be recognized at the Harold White Memorial Breakfast on October 9; and their names placed on plaques and mounted on the Harold White Memorial Marker at Blackman Park in downtown Jackson.
