An “Inaugural Gala” on November 2 sporting the theme of “Hollywood Nights” gave a significant financial boost to the Vets Returning Home program based in Macomb County. The nonprofit organization, which receives no government funding, operates out of an 11,000-square-foot facility that supplies 43 beds for veterans in need. “We provide a stable and sober living environment for veterans in crisis,” according to Sandy Bower, founder and CEO of Vets Returning Home. Among those on hand for the fund-raiser at Wyndgate Country Club in Rochester Hills were: (l-r) retired Oakland County Circuit Judge Fred Mester; guest speaker Gregory Gadson, a retired colonel in the U.S. Army; Sandy Bower; and emcee Frank Beckman, WJR Radio personality and the former play-by-play announcer for University of Michigan football.
