The Oakland County Bar Association’s biennial District Court Bench/Bar Conference will go virtual this year on Friday, Oct. 9 from 8 a.m. to noon. The event will be hosted by Motown Digital.
While the program will be virtual, “our goal is the same - to provide local attorneys and judges the opportunity to interact outside the courtroom in an informal, solution-oriented environment,” said a spokesperson for the OCBA.
“Gain valuable insights to enhance your legal practice and join us as we build congeniality between the bench and the bar. We have a distinguished group of speakers joining us this year.”
Session A is titled “Civil – Post-post Covenant: Where Are We Now?” and will feature Matthew Payne of Sigal Law Firm. Also in the first session is a presentation titled “Criminal – Assisting DWLS Defendants in Restoring Driving Privileges.” Among the speakers will be Judge Derek Meinecke of the 44th District Court, Judge Marla Parker of the 47th District Court, and Birmingham attorney Robert J. Morad.
Session B will include a presentation on “How to Appeal-proof Your Case” by Judge Elizabeth Gleicher of the Michigan Court of Appeals. It will be followed by “A Discussion of Ethics in Criminal Law” by Kenneth Mogill of Mogill Posner & Cohen.
The program will conclude with a “View from the Bench,” featuring Bridget McCormack, chief justice of the Michigan Supreme Court.
Each of these sessions is worth one credit hour for attorneys taking criminal appointments in Oakland County, according to the OCBA spokesperson.
