On April 30, Captain Wayne Bisard and Captain Bob Vogt retired from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office with 26 and 30 years of service respectively.
A graduate of Lumen Christi High School, Spring Arbor University and Lansing Community College, Vogt began his career with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office on Nov. 5, 1990, as a corrections deputy. After graduating from the corrections academy, he was assigned to the Wesley Street Jail.
In 2003, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, where supervised and directed corrections deputies and was the manager for Community Corrections.
In 2011, he was promoted to Lieutenant and became the Director of 911 Emergency Dispatch Center for Jackson County. In May 2013 he was promoted to Captain, becoming the Commander of the Corrections Division.
Vogt volunteered for multiple internal and external committees, which helped improve the efficiency of the organization: an example is the Corrections Leadership Program through the Michigan Sheriff’s Association, and the National Institute of Corrections Jail Administration Training.
His career highlights include: 2001 Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Term Award; 2002 Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Officer of the Year; and 2008 and 2010 Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Supervisor of the Year.
Bisard is a graduate from Brighton High School, joined the Marine Corps Reserves and served in the Marine Wing Service Support 472. He graduated from the Mid-Michigan Police Academy in 1994, obtained a bachelor’s degree from Siena Heights University, and a master’s degree from Central Michigan University.
In 1995, Bisard joined the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy. He served in many leadership roles including: Field Training Officer; Firearms Instructor; and Less Lethal Instructor. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2001, where he worked as a Patrol Supervisor and a Detective Supervisor. In 2011, he was promoted to Lieutenant of the Patrol Division, and in 2013 he was promoted to Captain, the Division Commander of Patrol.
Career highlights include:1999 Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy of the Year; six department commendations ; Jackson County Major Crimes Task Force; Computer Crimes Unit’ Police Staff and Command at Michigan State University
In addition, Deputy Benjamin “Benny” Roe retired on May 1 with 23 years of service.
Roe graduated from Michigan Center High School in 1992. In 1996 he received a bachelor’s degree from Ferris State University where he also lettered in football. He began his career with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office on June 30, 1998 as a deputy and assigned to the Patrol Division.
Career highlights include: 2006 Deputy of the Year Award; 6 Departmental Commendations (2001, 2003, 2008, 2009, 2015 and 2018); Assigned to the Marine Division and was lead instructor on the water safety program; Assigned to the school liaison program working with school administrators and students; Assigned to the Traffic Unit patrolling high accident secondary roads providing education and enforcement in Jackson County.
