Warner announces four Diversity Scholarships
Warner Norcross + Judd LLP has awarded scholarships to four college students through its Diversity Law Scholarship and Law School Admissions Test Preparation Course Scholarship programs.
One student has received a Diversity Law Scholarship, a competitive academic scholarship for students of color administered and awarded by the Grand Rapids Community Foundation. Three students have been awarded the LSAT Scholarship.
Now in its 21st year, the Diversity Law Scholarship provides monetary assistance to help cover the educational costs associated with legal secretarial or paralegal studies and a law degree, awarding $1,000 to a secretarial student or $2,000 to a paralegal student and $5,000 to a law school student.
Through a committee of volunteers, the Grand Rapids Community Foundation selected Timothy Kandow as this year’s Diversity Law Scholarship recipient. Kandow, who recently graduated from Oakland University with a bachelor’s degree in political science, will be awarded $5,000 to assist with the cost of law school tuition. He plans to attend Regent University Law School in Virginia Beach, Va.
The three LSAT Scholarship winners will receive up to $1,500 to assist with the cost of tuition for an LSAT Preparation Course, consisting of self-paced live online and in-person classes offered by Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions. Now in its 15th year, the LSAT Preparation Course Scholarship Program provides scholarships to enable college students of color to participate in a study course that prepares them for the LSAT. Studies have shown students who take a formal LSAT prep course score higher on the test, which determines entrance into law school.
This year’s LSAT Scholarship winners are: Neman Hallak, Grand Valley State University; Analise Robinson, Grand Valley State University; and Celina Boey, Madonna University.
Warner established the two scholarship funds with the Grand Rapids Community Foundation in 1998, and the first scholarship was awarded in 2001.
The winners were chosen after a committee of Community Foundation volunteers reviewed essays that summarized the goals and challenges that drew them to the field of law.
