Local Big Brothers Big Sisters agency announces new president & CEO
The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint and Genesee County Board of Directors has selected Lisa Humphrey as the new President and CEO of the agency, effective February 1, 2022. The announcement follows a comprehensive search to fill the position following the retirement of longtime President and CEO of the agency, Reta Stanley. The Board of Directors and staff are excited to welcome Humphrey into this role as they celebrate 78 years of serving Flint and Genesee County youth.
“After screening an extensive pool of candidates (30+) from around the country, Mrs. Lisa Humphrey was selected based on the necessary leadership skills and robust knowledge of the mission, vision, history, policies and practices of Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Flint and Genesee County”, said James Washington, Chairman of the Board for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint and Genesee County.
Humphrey served as the Vice President of Programs of the agency since 2009, bringing a wealth of knowledge and innovative programming in the field of mentoring, along with invaluable insight and experience in promoting positive youth development.
“It is truly an honor to be selected as the next CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters Flint and Genesee County. While our community continues to change, the impact of one-to-one mentoring remains constant. Mentorship alters the trajectory of young peoples’ lives by leading them away from violent and risky behavior and toward sustainable and productive opportunities. Every young person who has a desire to be mentored should have that opportunity. As I begin this next chapter in my BBBS journey, this is my top priority”, said Humphrey.
The agency, which defines itself as a youth empowerment organization whose mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships, has been able to serve 317 youth in 2021 and hopes to increase new one-to-one mentoring matches by 25 percent in 2022.
For more information on the agency and upcoming events, please contact Lisa Humphrey at lhumphrey@bbbsflint.org or (810) 235-0617.
