ABA looks at 'The Role of Corporate Counsel in Access to Justice' April 14

The Small Business Forum of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan will present a free, virtual interactive program "Doffing Your Cap or Keeping the cap on? Uncapping or Exemptions for Real Estate Transfers" on Thursday, April 7, from 4 to 5 p.m. via Zoom.

The focus is about uncapping of real estate taxes, examining exemptions for transfers between affiliated and/or commonly controlled entities and for joining and disjoining real property.

Jason Long, of Williams, Williams, Rattner, & Plunkett PC, who has written extensively on this topic, will talk with Sharan Levine of Levine & Levine as moderator, presenting story problems attorneys frequently encounter.

The program is designed to encourage the audience to participate and to discuss the issues around the exemption/exception or requirements to learn about the potential real estate tax ramifications of these transfers.

This short primer is for anyone teasing through the exceptions and exemptions of the General Property Tax Act, Jason's articles, and the State Tax Commission guidance in addition to the various cases decided on this subject.

The program will appeal to members of the Business Law Section, the Real Property Section and the Probate and Estate Planning Section.
